Implants & Partials

When a tooth is unable to be restored and needs to be extracted, or if an extraction has already taken place, there are options for replacing missing teeth. These options also exist when a person is genetically missing one or more permanent teeth.

Implants are a preferred option for replacing a missing tooth when it is ideal to leave the other teeth in the area alone. Where bridges require including surrounding teeth as part of the tooth replacement treatment, an implant enables us to restore only the missing area without using other teeth to support it. An implant is basically a man-made root, placed in the bone in a way that a tooth can be built for function and esthetics. A thorough exam will determine if you are a candidate for implant therapy and restoration.

Partials are removable prosthetics for replacing teeth. These are often an alternative treatment to bridges and implants and serve well when there are multiple teeth missing throughout your mouth.

Extractions

There are many different reasons for needing extractions. Wisdom teeth (or third molars), teeth that are diagnosed as “non-restorable”, severe periodontal condition, orthodontic purposes...these are just a few common reasons for extracting teeth.

Extractions always come with a little anxiety. We know, and we get it! Many of us have been through this ourselves for one or more of the above reasons.

Whatever the reason, we take exceptional care of our patients during the extraction process. Whether the procedure takes place in our office, or is done by our oral surgeon specialists, we will take every measure to make you as comfortable as possible.

Referrals

Sometimes when you go to your regular doctor, they find that you have a health condition that requires a specialist, like a heart doctor, or dermatologist, someone that is specifically educated to handle your issue. The same is true of your dental needs.

Most of your dental needs can be treated right here at Superior Dental. But in order to take exceptional care of you and your family, we have specialists that we refer to when it would better serve you or for services we do not perform.

We hand pick specialists that we trust and communicate with, that share our same philosophy in how to care for our patients. When the treatment that you need deserves or requires special attention, referring to a specialist is an extension of Dr. Durie doing what is best for you.

At an initial or routine exam, we are not only evaluating your teeth, but your gums and jaw bone as well! This is called your periodontal exam. The health of our gums is directly related to our overall health, and the cornerstone for keeping your teeth as long as possible.

There are reasons for needing more than “just a cleaning” and we can help you understand the recommended treatment if you require it. This treatment is not recommended for everyone. In many cases, a routine cleaning of scaling and polishing is done every six months with a check-up exam. But when there are existing conditions that require more involved treatment, we will recommend the right type of gum therapy to best serve you. We will explain and teach you why this is recommended so that you have complete confidence in the procedure, and can be sure of how it will improve your condition.

Whether crowns and bridges serve as a restorative or cosmetic procedure, we always want you to understand the recommended treatment.

Depending on the condition of a tooth, a crown can be the saving grace where other materials fall short. Just like in the building process, sometimes wood does the job, and other times you need steel. The materials in dentistry are like this too, and our dentist can show you the reasons why and when a crown is the right choice over filling materials.

Bridges are much like crowns and prepared the same way, only they “bridge” an existing space or one that is created when a tooth is extracted. At Superior Dental, we want you to know all of your options when it comes to dental treatment. Bridges can be discussed along with implants or partials when you are missing one or more teeth, based on the overall condition of your dental health and areas of concern.
